Just before the end of the school year, we managed to play two separate chess tournaments for primary and secondary school students.
In the younger group, there were two clear favorites missing: the owner of the 3rd chess category, Krzyś Bernas, and the leader of our school chess players among girls, Maja Nicpoń (4th category). In their absence, the fight for the medal places turned out to be very interesting: the tournament was won by Ignacy Polak with a sensational 100% result, one point ahead of Bruno Lewandowski and Konstanty Wroński with 7 points from 9 games. The best female chess player was Hania Żakowska, who made her debut in our competition, scoring as many as 3.5 points among the older players.
6 chess players took part in the high school chess tournament, including the clear favorite, Franciszek Olechnowicz (3rd category), who won confidently obtaining 4.5 points from 5 games. The second place winner was Jakub Staśek. Places 3-4 were shared with the same number of points by Jakub’s two colleagues from grade 2: Aleksander Stankiewicz and Mateusz Martewicz.
In both tournaments, places on the podium gave students attractive book prizes – in the younger group those were mainly riddles, games and coloring books, and in the older group… Chess textbooks. High school students do not stop practicing their skills and this summer they will meet again at the virtual ‘board’ on lichess.org in front of their computers.
Congratulations to all junior and senior chess players on their results, thank you for many moments of exciting tournament fights and beautiful victories, and we wish you a pleasant holiday break!
