Despite the approaching Matura exams and the Cambridge program examination session, our high school students entered a spring chess tournament with an elite lineup. There was no shortage of the best—previous tournament winners: Jakub Staśko and Mateusz Martewicz.
This time, however—likely due to matura preparations—victory went to their younger colleague, Filip Rogowski from grade 3, who scored 5.5 points over 7 rounds. Mateusz had to settle for silver (5 pts), while Jakub, with a score of 4.5 pts, took 5th place behind another of our graduating seniors, Aleksander Stankiewicz.
The biggest surprise was Adam Pniewski from grade 2, who collected a total of 5 points and won bronze, “snatching” several points from the favorites along the way.
The competition took place, as always, in a wonderful atmosphere. Aside from many interesting matches, there were also plenty of lively conversations and laughter, proving that chess is a great way to strengthen bonds and relieve stress before exams. This tournament will certainly be remembered by our students for a long time.
